Performances
Movement Revolution Dance Crew regularly performs at public and private events throughout Chicago and across the Midwest. We are available for corporate bookings, parties, festivals, concert dance events, video commissions, conventions, and more. MRDC offers both live and virtual dance engagement opportunities, continually expanding our creative boundaries to make our work accessible to the widest audience possible.
Educational Programs
Movement Revolution Dance Crew recognizes that Hip Hop culture was born in underresourced communities, created by individuals without access to mainstream arts education. Therefore, a central goal of our mission is to provide quality arts education, performance, and outreach to people of all backgrounds, regardless of their resources.
MRDC also strives to spread the message of positive hip hop and teach youth in the Chicago-land area, and around the world, the benefits of healthy living through our “Healthy Hip Hop” program. In the spirit of the original DJ crews that popularized the Hip Hop culture, MRDC uses all the elements while performing, teaching workshops or Djaying a events and parties. One of our main goals is to educate the next generation about the history of Hip Hop and use the culture as a positive force that unites the world. Using the elements of Hip Hop to inspire positive change in our local communities, MRDC has made a major impact on the youth of Chicago with the following programs.
Jammin' with the Boom Box : History of Hip Hop concert
Created by Founder Monternez Rezell, Jammin’ with the Boombox teaches the history of Hip Hop through an interactive performance in five parts. This performance features original music, choreography, visual art and culminates in a celebration of the overall positivity and creativity that is the essence of Hip Hop culture. Jammin' with the Boombox encompasses all elements of Hip Hop culture and features the history and positive message of Hip Hop in an accessible and relevant way.
"Healthy Hip Hop" workshop
This dance and performing arts workshop serves youth in underresourced neighborhoods with a focus that enriches students, introduces them to music and dance as well as teaches them life lessons through Hip Hop. Healthy Hip Hop teaches students the value of positive art; Peace, Love, Unity, and Having Fun. Members of MRDC bring this original curriculum to various elementary, middle, and high schools throughout
Chicagoland. The Healthy Hip Hop motto is “Healthy Independent People, Helping Other People!”
Community Outreach
MRDC strives to offer accessible and relevant public art programming that features the elements of Hip Hop culture in a positive and authentic way. MRDC offers quarterly workshops which are free, open to the public, and encourage movers of all ages and levels to learn the fundamentals of Hip Hop technique from trained professional dancers. MRDC also hosts an annual free showcases which not only feature excerpts of MRDC full-length shows but also celebrate the message and culture of Hip Hop and build a broader and more diverse audience for the Crew’s other paid performances.
Scholarship Opportunities
MRDC offers partial and full scholarships for our youth and teen programs. Please contact us at info@movementrevolutiondancecrew.com if you are interested in donating to or benefiting from our scholarship fund. We also offer multiple free classes and workshops throughout the year for adult and teen dancers. We keep our adult company class costs at $5 (the lowest in Chicago) to maintain an accessible environment for all artists.
Community Events
The Winterfest Hip Hop Jam is MRDC's an annual street dance battle. Dancers from all over Chicago and the Midwest are welcomed to participate. Winterfest happens every year in Decemeber. Proceeds from this event allow MRDC to offer free programming throughout the year.
